OnePlus shutdown rumours dismissed as India CEO breaks silence

New Delhi: Fresh clarification from OnePlus India has added a new turn to reports that suggested the brand could be shut down by parent company OPPO. After days of speculation, the India leadership has publicly denied claims of a shutdown, saying operations in the country are continuing as normal.

The response comes after a detailed report by Android Headlines flagged shrinking teams, falling shipments, and cancelled products as signs that OnePlus could be quietly wound down inside OPPO. The report triggered concern among users and retailers, especially in India.

OnePlus India responds to shutdown claims

On January 21, 2026, Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India, posted a public message on X pushing back against the claims.

“I wanted to address some misinformation that has been circulating about OnePlus India and its operations. We’re operating as usual and will continue to do so,” Liu wrote, ending the post with the brand’s long used line, “Never Settle.”

The post also included an image carrying a clear message. It said, “Recent unverified reports claiming OnePlus is shutting down are false. OnePlus India’s business operations continue as normal. We urge all stakeholders to verify information from official sources before sharing unsubstantiated claims.”

Why the report raised alarms

The original report pointed to a sharp fall in OnePlus shipments during 2024, dropping by more than 20 percent. In contrast, OPPO Group posted modest growth. Analysts quoted in the report said growth was driven mainly by the OPPO brand, not OnePlus.

India was highlighted as a weak spot. Around 4,500 retail stores across six states reportedly stopped selling OnePlus phones last year, citing warranty delays and thin margins. Market share numbers reflected that pullback, with OnePlus losing ground in both the premium and overall segments.

The report also mentioned office closures in the US and Europe, along with product cancellations such as the Open 2 foldable and the 15s compact phone.

What this means for users now

For Indian consumers, the immediate picture remains stable. OnePlus India says sales, service, and support are running normally. Software updates and warranties are still expected to be honoured, backed by OPPO.

At the same time, the broader questions raised by the report remain unanswered. OnePlus has not issued a global statement addressing the wider claims around restructuring and consolidation.
