Local media has reported that the body of student Abhi was found in a river in Naugaon district of Bangladesh. According to the report of ‘The Daily Agrajatra Pratidin’ of Bangladesh, the body of student Abhi was found in the river near Kalitala cremation ground in Nagaon city on Saturday afternoon.

Initially it was not known whose body belonged to him, but later it was identified as that of Hindu student Abhi. Abhi was studying management in a government college in Naugaon district. He was in the fourth year of his degree. His family members said that he was missing since January 11. As soon as the news of the student’s body being found in the river was received, Abhi’s family reached the river bank and identified the body by looking at the clothes he was wearing. However, the cause of his death is not yet known.

Abhi was the son of Ramesh Chandra, a resident of Santahar in Adamdighi upazila of Bogura district. Naugaon Sadar Police Station officer Niyamul Islam said that the body has been sent for post-mortem. He said that the cause of death will be known only after the post mortem report comes. The incident comes amid increasing violent incidents against minority Hindus in several districts of Bangladesh. At least 17 people have died in a series of violent attacks across Bangladesh. 14 cases have been registered and 21 people have been arrested in connection with the incident, but no arrests have been made in four cases.

Many deaths have occurred due to mob violence and punishment by the people. In Mymensingh, radicals had brutally killed Dipu Chandra Das by beating and burning him. Similarly, several suspects are still at large in the case of Khokon Chandra Das, another Hindu killed in the attack.

Many people have already been killed in attacks and violence targeting Hindus. Journalist and businessman Rana Pratap Bairagi was murdered in Jessore. One person was arrested in this case. Similarly, Sharat Mani Chakraborty was shot dead at his business place in Narsingdi. Police have arrested four people in this case. At the same time, jewelery businessman Prantos Karmakar was lured out of his house and then shot dead. Fish businessman Utpal Sarkar was hacked to death by miscreants in Faridpur. Similarly, a man named Proloy Chaki died in police custody. The family members have alleged that he died due to lack of treatment. Many Hindus including Proloy Chaki have died in police custody.
