WPL’s youngest player, made a record like ‘Vaibhav Suryavanshi’, scored a century at the age of just 14

Diya Yadav created history in WPL

Vaibhav Suryavanshi had created history by debuting in IPL at the age of just 14. He became the youngest player to play in IPL. Almost a year after this historic achievement of Vaibhav, now a new record has been created for the youngest player in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). 16 year old Diya Yadav did this amazing thing while making her debut in the match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. While playing for Delhi, this young batsman got his name registered in the record book of WPL.

Diya Yadav caught everyone’s attention in the WPL 2026 auction held in November 2025, when Delhi Capitals bought this player at the base price of Rs 10 lakh. In this way she became the youngest player to be bought in the WPL auction. But the wait was for his debut, which was not possible in the initial matches of the WPL 2026 season. But after 3 defeats in the first 4 matches, Delhi Capitals finally gave a chance to this young batsman.

On Tuesday, January 20, in the match against Mumbai Indians, Capitals included the right-handed batsman in the playing-11 for the first time. With this, at the age of just 16 years and 103 days, Diya Yadav became the youngest player of WPL. Delhi has bought this young cricketer coming from Haryana with the hope that she can bat like the team’s star opener Shefali Verma. This is expected because Dia herself has modeled her batting on the lines of Shefali Verma’s batting and she also does so.

When she was just 14 years old, Diya Yadav played a brilliant inning of 124 runs against Delhi in the Women’s Under-15 ODI Cup tournament. Not only this, Diya had scored 298 runs in just 8 innings in the domestic T20 tournament in the 2025-26 season, in which her average was 59.50 and strike rate was 128. After this, in the Inter-Zonal T20 tournament, he scored 150 runs in just 5 innings at a strike rate of 150.
