New Delhi: The New Zealand T20I series holds a pivotal importance for Team India as far as the T20 World Cup 2026 is concerned. The five-match series beginning from January 21 (Wednesday) in Nagpur will serve as the final preparation for not just India but also the Kiwis ahead of the showpiece tournament starting on February 7.

Fitting into the preparations and plans for the T20 World Cup, the Indian T20 squad will have a last opportunity of a final glance at their strengths and shortcomings before the defending champions begin their campaign at the multi-nation tournament. As many as five more teams apart from India have clinched the T20 World Cup trophy, which reflects at the high competitiveness of the ICC tournament.

Final dress rehearsal before WC

Ahead of the global showpiece tournament beginning next month, the New Zealand T20I series will serve as the final dress rehearsal for the Indian cricket team. After the completion of the five matches on January 31, there will merely a week left before the big tournament kickstarts, with Indian beginning their campaign against the United States of America on the first day itself.

It will serve as the ideal preparation for the host side as the same pitches would be used in the marquee event and the series against Kiwis will offer a glimpse into how the pitches will act in the next month’s tournament.
