Shocking: Five bodies from same family found in UP’s Saharanpur, probe begins

Saharanpur: In a shocking incident, five dead bodies were recovered from a house in Saharanpur district on Tuesday. The police has started probing the incident and all bodies have been sent for post-mortem for further investigation.

Sharing details, the police said that the incident took place at Kaushik Vihar area of the district under Saharsawa police station. It said that the five people whose bodies have been found are from the same family. The five people whose bodies have been found include a mother, her son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.

“Today, on January 20, 2026, upon receiving information about the discovery of the bodies of five members of the same family in Kaushik Vihar Colony, within the jurisdiction of Sarsawa Police Station, the Sarsawa police immediately reached the scene and took the bodies into custody”, the police said.

Senior police officers inspected crime scene

Sharing further details, the police added, “Senior officers inspected the crime scene, and the field unit is collecting evidence. The bodies are being sent for post-mortem examination. Other necessary legal proceedings are underway. It seems it was point-blank shooting.”

When asked further, the police said that a country-made pistol was recovered from the spot, which has been collected by forensic team which too reached the spot to collect evidence. It is yet to be found out whether it was a licensed pistol or not. “ All angles are being probed in the case. All bodies were found in the same room, as well as the weapon. We will share the updates soon,” the police added further.

In another incident, recently, a case of an alleged honour killing came to light from Deoband police station area in the district. A Dalit boy’s body was recovered from a railway track, who seemed to have been murdered.
