Basant Panchami, celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Magh month, is considered the festival of knowledge, wisdom and new consciousness. Goddess Saraswati is worshiped on this day and the joy of spring is visible in nature also. It is believed that bathing in the Sangam on the day of Basant Panchami purifies knowledge, intellect and speech.

Taking bath wearing yellow clothes is considered especially fruitful. According to sages and saints, this date is very auspicious for spiritual progress and transmission of positive energy. After the penance of Mauni Amavasya, bathing on Basant Panchami fills the mind and soul with new consciousness.

Even after Basant Panchami, two important bathing festivals are left for the devotees in Magh Mela.

Maghi Purnima (Fifth Bath): 1 February 2026, Sunday

Mahashivratri (Last Bath): 15 February 2026, Sunday

Magh Mela will formally end with the last bath on the day of Mahashivratri. On this day, worship of Lord Shiva and taking bath in Sangam has been given special significance.
