Karnataka top cop suspended after video shows him in compromising position with women in office

New Delhi: Facing heat over his viral video with multiple women, Karnataka Director General of Police (Civil Rights Enforcement) K Ramachandra Rao was suspended for “causing embarrassment” to the state government with his obscene act.

Rao, a 1993-batch IPS officer of DGP rank, was caught on camera in a compromising position with several women inside his office. Multiple videos of him involved in obscene acts with some women went viral on social media on Monday. He, however, has refuted charges against him and termed the clips “fabricated and false”.

‘Caused embarrassment to govt’

Rao has acted in an “obscene manner which is unbecoming of a government servant and also causing embarrassment to the government”, his suspension order read. The state government is convinced that Rao’s conduct is in violation of the rules, the order added.

“The State Government is prima facie satisfied that it is necessary to place Dr K. Ramachandra Rao, Director General of Police, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, under suspension with immediate effect, pending inquiry,” it added.

Rao is not allowed to leave the headquarters “under circumstances” without written permission from the state government during the period of suspension.

What CM said

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said that the government will investigate the matter and take disciplinary action. “No one is above the law,” he told reporters when asked about the viral clip of the DGP.
