Gurugram road rage: Doctor arrested for repeatedly running over Swiggy delivery guy

Gurugram: A 41-year-old government ayurvedic practitioner has been arrested in Gurugram for allegedly attempting to murder a Swiggy delivery executive by repeatedly running him over with his SUV during a road rage incident in Sector 93, police said on Monday.

The accused, identified as Navin Yadav, is posted at a government primary health centre in Daulatabad. He was arrested on Monday evening after CCTV footage surfaced showing his Mahindra Scorpio repeatedly reversing and hitting 43-year-old delivery executive Tinku Pawar in a narrow lane late Sunday night.

According to police, the incident occurred between 11.30 pm and 11.45 pm near a Swiggy warehouse used by delivery workers. Pawar, a resident of Chandpur Dhani in Rewari who was living in Gurugram’s Hayatpur area, was waiting for delivery orders along with other executives when the confrontation began.

Investigators said Yadav’s SUV first struck Pawar’s parked motorcycle, prompting Pawar and others to rush out and object. During the argument, Yadav allegedly reversed the vehicle abruptly, knocking Pawar to the ground. He then drove forward and reversed repeatedly, running over Pawar at least four times, police said.

CCTV visuals and videos recorded by witnesses show the SUV crushing motorcycles and attempting to hit other delivery executives as well. Pawar was left critically injured with multiple fractures in his left leg.

Sunny Pawar, the victim’s 18-year-old son, said that his father kept screaming in pain, but the driver fled the spot and went home, barely 200 metres away. Pawar was rushed to a private hospital in Rewari and later admitted to a civil hospital in Gurugram, where he is undergoing treatment and may require surgery.

On Monday morning, several delivery executives staged a protest at the Sector 93 police post, alleging police inaction and demanding the accused’s arrest.

Gurugram police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said Yadav had earlier argued with delivery workers over motorcycles being parked in the lane. “On Sunday night, after seeing the motorcycles parked again, he lost his temper and rammed them,” he said.

Police have seized the Scorpio and registered an FIR under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempted murder. Further investigation is underway.
