New Delhi [भारत]July 8 (ANI): The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defense is scheduled to meet on Wednesday at 3 pm at the Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi to discuss the transformation of Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs). The committee is being headed by BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh. In this meeting, representatives of Ministry of Defense/DPSUs will give information on the topic ‘Review of Self-Reliance and Modernization of Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) – Old DPSUs’.
Discussion on digital rupee and crypto
Earlier on July 2, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance had held a detailed review meeting with officials of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and representatives of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to assess the progress of India’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), known as the Digital Rupee. He also examined the broader regulatory and operational landscape surrounding Virtual Digital Assets (VDAs). The meeting assumes significance at a time when India is attempting to strike a balance between encouraging financial innovation and maintaining monetary and financial stability. While the RBI continues to expand pilot projects for its sovereign digital currency, privately issued cryptocurrencies and other virtual digital assets are posing regulatory, taxation and enforcement challenges. The Committee discussed what further policy interventions may be necessary to strengthen India’s digital financial ecosystem while ensuring adequate safeguards for consumers, financial institutions and the broader economy.
Hearing was also held on the role of army
On June 24, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defense had heard the views of senior defense and army officials on ‘The role of the Indian Army in ensuring the defense of the country’. CDS General NS Raja Subramani and Army chief-designate Lieutenant General Dheeraj Seth were among the senior officers present. The Committee heard oral evidence from representatives of the Ministry of Defence. Sources said officials briefed the committee about various steps taken to adopt technology in line with modern requirements and efforts made towards innovation. Sources said that during the presentation, the officials also spoke about the strong defense of India’s borders, which cover diverse geographical areas and have specific requirements. (ANI)
