He was taken to the hospital, but medical officials declared him dead, the SP said.

Baruipur police district said significant progress has been made in the investigation and two people have been arrested in connection with the death of the minor girl.

Politics heated up on the matter

Jadavpur MP Sayoni Ghosh had earlier said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday said the government and police are taking all necessary measures to ensure strict law and order following the alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur.

Addressing reporters in Baruipur, the officer said, “This is not just a Baruipur incident; we have been working since day one to ensure that such incidents do not happen anywhere in the state. We have spoken to the CP and SP. The government and the police are making every possible effort. We have spoken to the victim’s family.”

On the other hand, Trinamool Congress leaders, including Mamata Banerjee, took out a candlelight march condemning the alleged rape and murder. Party leaders alleged that Banerjee was prevented from meeting the victim’s family and accused the police of restricting her movement.
