Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken a big step to improve the environment of the city. He has announced that 100 oxygen parks will be built in Delhi. The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of 10 oxygen parks and informed that work is already going on on 18 such parks in the capital. It is being told that Delhi Government is making this scheme by taking inspiration from the successful Oxygen Park concept of Gujarat. Under this, special green areas will be created by planting only indigenous species of trees which will be beneficial for the environment.

These oxygen parks will be different from normal parks. In these, native trees like Peepal, Banyan, Jamun and Mango will be planted. These trees are considered very effective in cleaning the air, increasing biodiversity and creating a healthy urban environment. Officials are considering these parks as ‘green lungs’ of the city, which will provide clean air and better public space to the people.

Rekha Gupta said that Delhi’s 2026-27 budget was presented as a ‘Green Budget’. This shows the seriousness of the government towards environmental protection. About 22% of the total budget has been earmarked for environment-related activities. The government is also providing financial assistance to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and other organizations so that they can develop parks in their neighborhoods and participate in plantation.

Every tree planted under this program will be digitally tagged and tracked online. This will maintain transparency and also ensure that the newly planted plants survive for a long time. The purpose of this technology-based approach is to increase accountability. Also, officials will be able to monitor the health and maintenance of each plant from time to time.

The Oxygen Park program is a part of the government’s larger campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. Under this campaign, the Delhi government has set a target of planting 70 lakh saplings across the city. There will be active participation of common people, institutions and municipal officials in this. The aim of this huge green project of the government is to reduce pollution, promote biodiversity and make Delhi a clean, green and sustainable city.
