Rahul Ravindran and Chinmayi Sripada are being trolled after their comments on Ketan Agarwal murder case. Both reacted strongly when children were targeted.
Chinmayi Sripada on Trollers: After the news of Ketan Aggarwal being allegedly murdered by his fiancee Sia Goyal came to light, filmmaker and actor Rahul Ravindran denied that the incident was a widespread or system-based problem related to men. After his statement, some people started targeting him and his wife, singer Chinmayi Sripada on social media. The matter escalated so much that some trollers even wrote objectionable things about his 3 year old children and even wished for his death.
Chinmayi Sripada narrated her ordeal in a 7-minute video.
Fed up with the constant trolling, Rahul Raveendran decided to leave X (formerly Twitter). At the same time, Chinmayi Sripada came out on social media and strongly criticized the trollers. Chinmayi Sripada shared a video of about 7 minutes on X. In this he told that he and his family have been facing online trolling and abuse for many years. He said that recently some people wished for the death of his 3-year-old son. According to Chinmayi, Rahul Ravindran’s patience broke when he saw a post in which he had asked to pray for his son’s death. Not only this, in that post an appeal was made to other people to do the same. Chinmayi said that all this happened only because some people could not control their anger and emotions.
‘Targeting children is crossing every limit’
In the video, Chinmayi Sripada also spoke on issues like rape culture, hatred towards women, sexual harassment and increasing hatred on social media. He said that online abuse has become a common thing today, but targeting someone’s young children in this way is completely unacceptable. At the end of the video she addressed those who wrote objectionable things against her twins Shravas and Driptah. She said that she cannot wish anything good for those who say such things against children.
Targeted trolls by sharing screenshots
On Wednesday, Chinmayi Sripada also shared screenshots on social media of messages that were allegedly sent to her family by trolls. He wrote that some Telugu social media users are making very objectionable comments about his children. He also told that Rahul Raveendran left X a few days ago because he saw a post in which he wished for the death of his son. Chinmayi told that she has three-year-old twins, a son and a daughter. She said that whenever she expresses her opinion on women’s rights or such issues, some people target her family.
‘Such people should not get a place on social media’
Chinmayi said that people who spread hatred against children should not get a place on social media platforms. She said that she considers those who have such violent thoughts towards innocent children to have serious mental problems. He also appealed to such people to delete their accounts.
Why did Rahul Ravindran leave X?
Last month, Rahul Ravindran had also expressed his displeasure over his children being continuously targeted. He wrote that people may not agree with what he said, but the way hatred was being spread against his children, it shook him to the core. Rahul said that after reading a particular post, he could not feel normal for about half an hour. He also wrote that he does not want social media to affect his mental peace in this way. For this reason, he decided to remove the X (formerly Twitter) app from his phone and leave the platform.
What is the whole matter?
After the Ketan Aggarwal murder case, a user on X shared a scene from director Rahul Ravindran’s Telugu film ‘The Girlfriend’. The user claimed that such films show some stories related to women’s side, but ignore incidents like the Pune murder case. After this post this matter became a topic of discussion on social media. Some users advised him to make a film on atrocities on men. After this comment, Rahul Ravindran replied on social media clarifying his point.
What did Rahul Ravindran say?
Rahul Ravindran wrote in his post that he also sees incidents of serious crimes involving women who commit heinous crimes due to anti-social mentality (sociopathic). He further said that on the other hand he also sees a social structure which has not given equal opportunities to women for a long time. According to her, many women’s identity and freedom are limited through everyday behaviour, neglect and small comments (micro-aggressions). Rahul wrote that this is his personal view and he has seen many women around him suffering silently in such circumstances. After this reply of Rahul Ravindran came out, the debate regarding his post intensified on social media. Many users supported his views, while many others criticized him. After this, trolling started on X regarding Rahul Ravindran.
