Delhi Bird Flu: Bird flu case has come to light in Delhi Zoo. After the investigation report, the zoo administration has closed it till further orders in view of security.
Delhi Zoo Closed: Bird flu case has come to light in Ju, Delhi. Two painted Stark birds were found dead in the Zoo’s Water Bird Aviary. Their samples were sent to the National Institute for High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal on August 27. In the investigation report, H5N1 avian influenza i.e. bird flu was confirmed in both birds.
Delhi zoo will remain closed till further orders
After the report on the evening of August 28, the zoo administration immediately took precautionary measures, considering it as serious. The Delhi Zoo has been closed till further orders as part of security measures. Also, monitoring of all birds has been increased and the process of isolating infected birds has been started. The administration says that all necessary steps are being taken for public health protection. Experts believe that bird flu virus can prove dangerous not only for birds but also humans. Therefore, full care is being taken to prevent the infection from spreading.

What is bird flu?
Bird flu is also called avian influenza. It is a viral disease that mainly affect birds, especially wild and pet chickens. Apart from this, it is also found in species like some migrant waterfalls, pet birds and ostrich. Bird flu can sometimes infect humans. In humans it usually spreads through direct contact of infected birds. There are many types of this, such as H5N1, H5N6 and H7N9. The first cases of bird flu in humans were seen in 1997. At that time many people were infected with the avian influenza A virus and some were also killed.
