Tamil Nadu Politics: The Congress top brass held a meeting with the party leaders of Tamil Nadu in Delhi ahead of the Assembly election to discuss the party’s strategy.
A section of the party in the poll-bound state has demanded a power-sharing deal with the DMK if the alliance returns to power. The Congress’ top brass has noted all the demands; however, it also directed the leaders to not speak anything against the party line. The instruction came amid the reports that some Congress leaders suggested an alliance with the newly formed Vijay-led TVK. However, the party leaders have rejected such claims and affirmed that the grand old party’s alliance with the DMK is intact.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stated that the party is determined to fight against the discriminatory politics of the BJP. “We held a key meeting with our leaders from Tamil Nadu. We are confident that the people of Tamil Nadu would choose equality, social justice, empowerment, and good governance over bigotry, sectarianism, anti-federal, and discriminatory politics of the RSS-BJP,” Kharge stated in his post.
AICC general secretary in charge of organisation KC Venugopal assured that the decision will be taken by the top brass considering multiple factors, further directing the party leaders to not speak against the party line. “With regard to the election strategy matters, the party high command will take an appropriate decision in due course, keeping in mind the larger interest of the party ideology and the people of Tamil Nadu,” Venugopal told the reporters.
In the past few weeks, several Congress leaders, including Girish Chodankar, MP Manickam Tagore, and Sachin Pilot, demanded a share in power. However, DMK leader and Tamil Nadu minister I Periyasamy stated that the DMK government will not share power with the allies.
