BWF World Championships: PV Sindhu crashes out in quarterfinal despite late fightback

New Delhi: PV Sindhu’s campaign at the BWF World Championships ended on Friday after a heartbreaking loss in the quarterfinal against Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani in Paris. The Indian shuttler produced a determined display to come back from a game down to force a decider, but the 23-year-old Indonesian shuttler kept her composure to seal a 21-14, 13-21, 21-16 win and progress to the semifinal.

Sindhu, thus, failed to break the quarterfinal curse of 2025. The two-time Olympic medallist has endured a tough season, with quarterfinal finishes at the India Open and the ongoing BWF World Championships her best results.

The world number 15 raised hopes of a better outing in Paris after an impressive win against No. 2 Wang Zhi Yi of China in the Round of 16. However, the Hyderabad shuttler failed to carry the momentum against Wardani.

Meanwhile, India’s mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also crashed out after losing in straight games against Malaysia’s Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei in the quarterfinals. The Malaysian pair claimed a dominating 21-15, 21-13 victory as the Indian duo suffered defeat in just 37 minutes.
