4 people died and 6 are missing in a landslide in Wayanad, Kerala. Police have registered a case under section 194 of the Indian Judicial Code. The rescue operation is ongoing and 9 injured have been admitted to the hospital.

On Tuesday, the police have registered a case under section 194 of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) in connection with the Wayanad landslide. He said rescue operations are continuing with priority given to locating the missing people. At least four people were killed and six others are missing in a landslide that occurred at the Kallady tunnel construction site in Meppadi gram panchayat in Kerala’s Wayanad district on Tuesday, according to officials.
Speaking to ANI, the DIG said that along with the rescue operations, the process of identification, post-mortem and investigation of the bodies is going on. He said, “We have registered a case under section 194 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). The process of identification and post-mortem of the bodies is being completed and investigation is underway. Also, the rescue operation is also going on.”
Finding missing people is the first priority
Karthik K. Teams of the district administration, fire and rescue services, police, volunteers and local residents are jointly carrying out the rescue operation, it said. He said, “Our first priority is to locate those who are still missing. At this stage, we do not know whether they are alive or not, so the immediate focus is on clearing the debris and reaching those trapped below. There are also people living beyond the affected area, and the road needs to be cleared to restore their access.”
According to the DIG, “nine injured persons have been admitted to the hospital and are undergoing treatment”. He further said, “A case of unnatural death has been registered under Section 194 of the Indian Penal Code. We will be able to share more information as the investigation progresses.”
Relief and rescue operations for the affected
Temporary shelter has been arranged at Mundakkai Forest Station and Churalmala Church Hall for the stranded residents on either side of the bridge. Authorities have also taken steps to ensure the safety of school children and evacuate residents from sensitive areas including Erettukundu, Attamala, Mamikkunnu and Ambedkar Colony.
