Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran accused Congress of double standards on Mekedatu dam. He said that despite the Congress government in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu Congress is pretending to protest and this is a betrayal of the people of the state.
Nagendran referred to Tamil Nadu Congress President Manickam Tagore’s announcement that not a single brick would be allowed to be laid for the proposed Mekedatu Dam and warned of protests against its construction. Nagendran alleged that Tagore was ignoring the fact that Karnataka was ruled by the Congress and was behaving as if a rival party was in power there. He claimed that Congress has once again proved that it continues to deceive the people of Tamil Nadu on the Mekedatu issue.
The BJP leader further alleged that after achieving alliance, a new political system and ministerial berths in the TVK-led government in Tamil Nadu, the Congress is playing political drama on the Mekedatu issue. He claimed that if “Tagore had talked to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi or Siddaramaiah, the issue could have been resolved immediately.” Instead, making the empty announcement that he will launch protests and will not allow even a single brick to be laid is a political bluff aimed at misleading the people of Tamil Nadu.
Campaign against corruption also targeted
He taunted that it was equally ridiculous that the Congress had announced a state-wide anti-corruption campaign with the slogan “Reject bribery, keep your head held high”.
The state BJP chief further said, “The Congress, which suffered a humiliating defeat across the country due to rampant corruption and consequently lost power, is now preaching honesty, it is just like the devil quoting scriptures.”
TVK government also accused
He further alleged that allegations of corruption have emerged against the TVK-led government in Tamil Nadu. He claimed that media reports and statements by a TVK functionary have raised allegations regarding the appointments of the Advocate General and government lawyers as well as efforts to woo MLAs from opposition parties.
