The decision whether Bangladesh team will play in India or Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup 2026 is going to be taken soon. The T20 World Cup will start from February 7 and the Bangladesh team is adamant on playing its matches in Sri Lanka. ICC tried hard to convince Bangladesh Cricket Board in a meeting but it refused to accept this. Now ICC has taken a big decision on this issue. ICC has decided that one of its teams will now go to Bangladesh, where there will be face-to-face talks with BCB.
Bangladesh’s sports advisor confirmed
Bangladesh’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul on Thursday confirmed the proposed ICC tour. Nazrul made it clear that Bangladesh absolutely wants to play in the T20 World Cup but there will be no compromise on the venue issue. Asif Nazrul said, ‘According to the latest information, the BCB President has told me that an ICC team can come to Bangladesh for discussions. There will be no change in our stand. We are eager to play in the World Cup, especially in Sri Lanka and I am confident that organizing it is not impossible.
ICC-BCB meeting was a failure
This issue has been heated between India and Bangladesh since last week. ICC talked to BCB through video conferencing. During the meeting, the board refused to send a team to India citing security concerns and demanded the transfer of Bangladesh’s matches to Sri Lanka. ICC replied to BCB that the schedule of the tournament has already been decided and BCB should reconsider its demand. After the ICC meeting, BCB Vice President Shakhawat Hussain also reiterated the same thing. He said, ‘We are firm on our stand. We will not change our stand even an inch. We are not going to India. We have made our stand clear and they are looking for alternatives. The path of dialogue is still open.
