Vishvaraj Jadeja’s blistering ton takes Saurashtra into Vijay Hazare Trophy final

New Delhi: Vishvaraj Jadeja’s blistering unbeaten century guided Saurashtra to the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy final on Friday. Chasing a target of 292 set by Punjab, Jadeja scored sensational 165 runs to power the side to a dominant 9-wicket win and set up the final clash against Vidarbha on Sunday. Vidarbha had beaten Karnataka in the first semifinal on Thursday.

Apart from Jadeja’s match-winning knock, skipper Harvik Desai scored 64 runs as the duo added 172 runs for the opening wicket to push the Punjab side against the wall. After his departure, Prerak Mankad also played an unbeaten knock of 52 runs to help the side cross the finish line in just 39.3 overs. Jadeja and Mankad added 121 runs for the unbroken second-wicket partnership.

Jadeja devastates Punjab bowlers

En route his devastating innings, Jadeja smashed 18 fours and 3 massive sixes, not giving any opportunity for the Punjab bowlers. Gurnoor Brar was the lone wicket-taker for Punjab as he along with other bowlers proved very expensive for the side, also failing to restrict the batters in the chase. Earlier in the match, Saurashtra’s bowlers did an excellent job in restricting Punjab to total of 291.

Chetan Sakariya was the leading wicket-taker with four scalps while Ankur Panwar and Chirag Jani claimed two wickets apiece. Rest of the bowlers also bowled up to perfection but failed to create any breakthroughs. Meanwhile for Punjab, Harnoor Singh and captain Prabhsimran Singh added 60 runs for the opening wicket with the second-wicket partnership of 109 runs between Prabhsimran and Anmolpreet Singh becoming the turning point after Harnoor lost his wicket on 33.

Anmolpreet was the leading run-scorer with 100 runs off 105 balls while Prabhsimran played a sensational knock of 87 in just 89 balls, smashing the opposition bowlers across the field in Bengaluru.
