Somari Bai of Bastar got a permanent house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). The family also got huge benefits from schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission, Ujjwala and MNREGA.
Raipur. Every family dreams of having a safe and secure home. This dream of Somari Bai, a resident of Gram Panchayat Singanpur of Tokapal development block of Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, came true through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). The family which once lived in harsh conditions in a kutcha hut, is today living respectably in a permanent house with all the basic facilities.
Had to face problems every year in kutcha house
Somari Bai, who comes from the Scheduled Tribe category, lived in a mud house for years with her five-member family. Water used to leak from the roof during the rainy season, while the family had to face a lot of problems in summer and winter also. Apart from this, the expenditure on repairing the house every year became a financial burden for them.
Received assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh from Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
Somari Bai’s application was approved under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) in the financial year 2024-25. Under the scheme, he received a total financial assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh in three installments. With the help of this amount, he got his new permanent house built in an area of 27 square meters.
Jal Jeevan Mission, Ujjwala and Swachh Bharat Mission also benefited
The government developed Somari Bai’s house as a “complete house” through coordination of various schemes. Under Jal Jeevan Mission, facility of clean drinking water from tap was provided to every household. Free LPG gas connection was provided under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, while toilets were constructed under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Apart from this, 90 days’ wages for house construction were also paid through Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA), which provided additional financial assistance to the family.
House repair expenses saved, increased focus on children’s education
After the construction of a permanent house, there has been a big change in the life of Somari Bai’s family. Now they do not have to spend every year on repairing the house. The family is using this savings to meet the children’s education and other important needs. By getting safe accommodation, the family has got a lot of relief from the ravages of weather and diseases. Besides, their respect and confidence in the society has also increased.
Somari Bai expressed gratitude to the government
Expressing her happiness, Somari Bai said that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) has fulfilled the years-old dream of her family. He expressed his gratitude to the government for providing safe and dignified housing and said that the scheme has brought a positive change in the life of his family.
