Homeguards New Enrollment Process: In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed to start a new recruitment process on vacant posts of home guards. Maximum age limit 30 years, written examination compulsory and disaster friends will get priority.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a big step to make home guards who played an important role from law and order to disaster management in the state. He has directed to start the new enrollment process immediately on vacant posts.

New board will make transparent recruitment of home guards

The Chief Minister said that a new board will be set up with the help of the Police Recruitment and Training Board to make the enrollment of home guards completely time bound, transparent and fair. This will further strengthen the trust of the people on the selection process.

Changes in rules and the youth increased the opportunity

In the meeting, the Chief Minister clarified that change in enrollment rules is also necessary with the changing times. He suggested that:

  • The maximum age limit should be 30 years.
  • Written examination should be made mandatory in the selection process.
  • Priority should be given to the experience of disaster management or trained youth.

At present, out of 1,18,348 sanctioned posts in the state, only 71,155 home guards are active. About 38,000 volunteers will retire in the next 10 years, while the current force is more than 51% over 50 years of age. In such a situation, it has become necessary to give a new form to the youth by giving them a chance.

Disaster friends will also get opportunity

The Chief Minister directed that district -wise action should be taken to deploy trained disaster friends associated with disaster management as home guard volunteers.

Homeguards playing an important role in every field

Officials in the meeting said that the services of the Home Guards are being taken to the police administration, traffic management, educational institutions, health departments, transport, urban bodies, Doordarshan, AIR, FCI, Mining Department and Development Authorities. Homeguards also contributed significantly to the recent Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, various states elections and events like Mahakumbh-2025.

The CM was told that most of the procedures of the department have now come on the digital platform.

  • Duty allocation
  • Allowance of allowances
  • Ex-gratia payment
  • Pension arrangement

Better training will lead to professional force

A central training institute and 12 divisional training centers are active in the state, where more than 15,000 volunteers are given regular and advanced training every year. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that after the implementation of the new recruitment and training system, UP’s Home Guard force will come out in more professional and capable form.
