The accident happened when Mahesh was traveling in an SUV with his friends. At the dangerous turn of Ambenali Ghat, the vehicle went out of control and fell into a ditch about 1500 feet deep. A total of 8 people lost their lives in this accident. After the incident, there has been a wave of mourning among the entire Marathi entertainment world and fans.
How did the horrific accident at Ambenali Ghat happen?
According to the police, this accident happened in Ambenali Ghat area on Poladpur-Mahabaleshwar Road in Raigarh district. All the friends had left Harne of Dapoli at around 2 am on Sunday and were going to Satara. But when they did not reach within the stipulated time, the family members started a search and later contacted the police. Police conducted a search operation based on the mobile tower location. A damaged SUV was seen inside a deep ditch at Ambenali Ghat on Monday morning. Initial investigation believes that the driver lost control of the vehicle, after which the SUV fell straight into the valley.
Who became the victims of the accident?
Police identified the deceased as Mahesh Pawar (25), Ritesh Lokhande (22), Suhas Lokhande (20), Utkarsh Shingte (21), Nikhil Shingte (25), Aditya Salunkhe (21), Rajesh Katkar (35) and Ansh Chavan (19). Most of these youths were residents of Satara, while Ansh Chavan was from Ratnagiri. Expressing grief over the accident, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “Eight friends were out on a journey when their vehicle fell into a gorge about 1500 feet deep. The district administration immediately started relief and rescue operations.” He said that five teams of seven members each were formed to remove the dead bodies. Help of NDRF and volunteer rescue teams was also taken in the rescue operation.
