What does religious belief say?
The direction of sleep is considered important in Hindu religion and Vastu Shastra. According to many beliefs, one should avoid sleeping with the head towards the north. North direction is considered to be the direction of gods and spiritual energy. At the same time, according to some religious stories, at the time of funeral, the head of the dead body is kept towards the north. What does science say?
The logic behind not sleeping with the head towards the north is often given because of the Earth’s magnetic field. The Earth’s magnetic field is considered to move from north to south. Some people believe that if the head is in the north direction, the magnetic balance of the body may be affected. However, no solid scientific evidence has been found to prove that sleeping with the head towards the north is harmful for the body. The most important things for good sleep are room temperature, noise, light, tension, bed and lifestyle.
