WPL 2025: Top 5 highest successful run-chases in WPL history

On Friday, the RCB Women’s team, playing against Gujarat Giants in the season opener, rewrote history by becoming the first team in Women’s Premier League (WPL) history to chase down a total of over 200.

Thanks to a heroic performance from star Indian wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghosh, the with 9 balls to spare, making a strong statement to begin the third season.

Coincidentally, four of the most successful run-chases of the Women’s Premier League have come against the Gujarat Giants women’s team.

Here, TheBridge is looking at the top five successful run-chases from the history of WPL:

1. RCB against GG – WPL Season 3

RCB now holds the record for the highest successful run chase in WPL history, thanks to their brilliant batting display against Gujarat Giants.

Despite a poor start, losing two wickets for just 14 runs, RCB chased down 202 runs in just 18.3 overs, courtesy of explosive half-centuries from Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh.

Richa (64) and Ellyse (57) batted at impressive strike rates of 237.04 and 167.65, respectively. After Perry’s departure, Richa received valuable support from Kanika Ahuja, who scored a quickfire 30 off 13 balls.

2. MI against GG – WPL Season 2

The second-highest successful run chase belongs to former champions Mumbai Indians, who chased down 191 runs in the sixth match of WPL Season 2 against Gujarat Giants.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the standout performer, scoring a brilliant 95 at a strike rate of 197.92, guiding MI to victory on the penultimate delivery of the innings.

3. RCB against GG – WPL Season 1

RCB, known for their explosive batting, delivered one of the best performances in WPL history by chasing down 189 runs in just 15.3 overs against Gujarat Giants in Season 1.

New Zealand opener Sophie Devine was the star of the match, playing a sensational knock of 99 off just 36 balls, leaving everyone in awe. To date, this remains one of the greatest individual innings in WPL history.

4. UPW against GG – WPL Season 1

UP Warriorz holds the record for the fourth-highest successful run chase in WPL history, having chased down 179 in the first season-once again, against Gujarat Giants.

UP Warriorz had a shaky start, losing three wickets for just 39 runs. However, a brilliant partnership between Australian batters Tahlia McGrath (57) and Grace Harris (72) completely turned the match around.

5. MI against DC – WPL season 2

Mumbai Indians appear on this list for the second time, with their successful chase of 172 runs against Delhi Capitals in the WPL Season 2 opener.

Yastika Bhatia (57) set the foundation with a solid half-century, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s quickfire 55 off 34 balls ensured MI clinched victory on the final delivery of the match.
