Question on Nitish Reddy (Photo-PTI)
India vs New Zealand, 2nd ODI: The Indian cricket team lost the match against New Zealand but what the assistant coach of Team India did after that is really surprising. We are talking about Ryan ten Descathe who raised questions on the ability of Nitish Kumar Reddy, after the defeat in Rajkot ODI, he said that Nitish Reddy has been given opportunities but he has not been able to perform anything special. It is very surprising when the coach of Team India is openly criticizing his own player.
Indian coach attacks Nitish Reddy
Ten Descathe told reporters after the match, ‘With Nitish, we keep talking about his development and getting him playing time, and then when you give him playing time, he is not able to perform much.’ Deskathe clearly said that Reddy should have taken advantage of the opportunity he got in the second ODI, but he could only score 20 runs and could not take a single wicket in his two overs. Ten Deskathe said, ‘They had a great opportunity in Rajkot when you are in such a situation and you get a chance to spend 15 overs on the wicket. You will have to take full advantage of such opportunities to strengthen your claim for selection.
A better third spinner should have been given a chance than Reddy!
Ten Deskathe also openly said that India should have given a chance to a third spinner in place of Reddy. He said, ‘If you look at our team combinations, we like to play an extra spinner. Badoni had to be included in the team at the last moment after Washington got injured. We felt that Nitish would perform well on this pitch. However, the big question here is that Nitish Reddy was given a chance in the team as an all-rounder but he was given only 2 overs. As a result, Indian bowling flopped badly and New Zealand won on the basis of Darrell Mitchell’s century.
