It is the habit of most Indians to take medicine for any medical problem without doctor’s advice. Be it headache, fever, cold or acidity… people start treating most of the minor health problems on their own. This type of home medical treatment causes great harm to the body. Initially its effect is not visible, but if this happens for a long time, then in future the body becomes home to many diseases.

Are you also addicted to taking medicine from even the slightest discomfort and medicine? To find out how dangerous this can be, TV9 spoke to Narendra Sharma, a pharmacist at MMG Hospital. Know what important things the expert said about this.

What do experts say

Pharmacist Narendra Sharma says that now people take medicines from medical stores even for minor diseases without consulting the doctor. This is called self-medication in which medicine is taken without doctor’s advice. In case of problems like headache, fever, cold, acidity or body pain, people directly go to medical stores and buy medicines. But this habit can sometimes cause serious health problems.

These losses can occur

Experts say that the role of a pharmacist is not limited to just selling medicines, but it is also his responsibility to provide information to the patient about the correct use of the medicine. If a person is taking the same medicine repeatedly or using painkillers for a long time, it can have adverse effects on the kidneys, liver and stomach. Similarly, wrong or incomplete use of antibiotics can reduce the effect of medicines in future, which is called antibiotic resistance.

how to take medicine

Every medicine has the right dose, right time and right duration. Many medicines cannot be taken on an empty stomach, while some medicines are effective only after eating. Consuming some medicines with other medicines or alcohol can also be harmful. Therefore, patients should always take necessary information from the pharmacist while taking medicines.

The pharmacist can also tell the patient what the possible side effects of the medicine are, what to do if a dose is missed, and what temperature the medicine should be stored at. Apart from this, if the patient already has diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney or liver disease, then extra caution is needed while choosing the medicine.

When is it necessary to see a doctor

If any disease is recurring, high fever persists for several days, there is difficulty in breathing, chest pain or persistent vomiting and diarrhea, then instead of just taking medicine from the medical store, one should immediately consult a doctor. Right treatment is always possible only with right diagnosis and right advice.
