Bangladesh Premier League 2025/26: Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26 season is now suspended indefinitely. Due to the strong protest and boycott by the players in front of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the further activities of the league have come to a complete standstill. This decision came to light during the Chittagong Royals vs Noakhali Express match on 15 January 2026, when players of both the teams did not reach the field.

The league was suspended amid huge uproar

This entire uproar is related to the controversial statements of BCB Finance Committee Chairman Nazmul Islam. Nazmul had recently said that if Bangladesh does not go to India for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, then the board will not suffer any financial loss, the only loss will be to the players, because they will not get match fees. At the same time, while talking about giving compensation to the players, he even said that why should they be given compensation? If he is unable to go anywhere and do anything, will we ask him back the crores of rupees spent on him? Shall we ask? It will be difficult for the players to survive without the board.

The players did not like this statement of Nazmul Islam and the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) demanded his resignation. It was also said that if Nazmul does not resign from his post before the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match, then the players will not play cricket further. Due to which the players did not reach the stadium at the time of the scheduled match on January 15 at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, due to which the match was cancelled. After which BCB has removed Nazmul Islam from all responsibilities including the post of Finance Committee Chairman. But CWAB President Mohammad Mithun clearly said in the press conference that without written guarantee the players will not take the field.

Total 24 matches played in BPL 2025-26

A total of 34 matches were to be played in Bangladesh Premier League 2025-26. But only 24 matches could be completed. Both the matches to be played on January 15 were cancelled. In such a situation, it is difficult to tell at the moment when this league will start again. If the league resumes, both these canceled matches can be played again. The final of this season was to be played on 23 January only.
