Vandanapur Murali Krishna and his wife hosted the feast for their daughter Maunika and son-in-law Sri Datta, who is from Rajahmundry and got married last year. The couple enjoyed the lavish feast on their first Sankranti after getting married.
The spread included a variety of dishes – sweets, snacks and traditional delicacies, of vegetarian and non-vegetarian variety. The delicacies included Murukulu, Gaarelu, Ariselu, Bobbatlu, Sunnundalu, Kajjikayalu, rice, curries among others.
Tradition of serving up feasts in Godavari districts:
In Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh particularly, families extend hospitality to their sons-in-law and treat them to grand feasts and gifts. The harvest festival is celebrated over four days in Andhra Pradesh, with Sankranti falling on January 15 this year while Bhogi, Kanuma fall on January 14, 16 respectively.
