The girl got married as per Hindu customs According to the police, the deceased Maivish Khatoon Afzal Ali was married to Shivam Ranjit Singh Thakur as per Hindu customs. Both were originally residents of the same village in Ambedkarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. It was told that the accused had abducted the girl with himself when she was still a minor, after which a case was registered against him. Later, when they became adults, both of them got married and started living in Surat.

On the day of the incident also there was an argument over the same issue and in anger the accused strangled his wife. At present the police has disclosed the case of this murder. After legal action, the accused has been sent to jail.
