Belgium enjoyed on social media after the victory
seattle [यूएस]July 7 (ANI): The Belgium national football team celebrated its impressive 4-1 win over hosts USA in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 with two funny posts on social media that instantly caught the attention of football fans. After the win, the Belgian Red Devils shared an Instagram Story with the caption, “Turn it around.” The post seemed to be mocking the hosts after they had confirmed their place in the quarter-finals.
The team also took another witty dig at X on the long-running debate of ‘football’ versus ‘soccer’ in America. “It’s called football not soccer,” wrote the Belgian Red Devils.
Earlier, FIFA had rejected Belgium’s challenge over Florin Balogun’s eligibility. World football’s governing body had suspended the American forward’s one-match ban ahead of the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 clash between the two teams. Balogun was shown a red card in the 64th minute of the United States’ 2–0 round of 32 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Match status: This is how Belgium won 4-1
Talking about the match, Belgium entered the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2026 with an impressive 4-1 win over the hosts United States at the Seattle Stadium. Charles de Ketelere won the player of the match award by scoring two goals, while Hans Vanakan scored his first FIFA World Cup goal and substitute Romelu Lukaku scored in stoppage-time to give the team a big win. This was Lukaku’s third consecutive World Cup match goal.
Despite the United States briefly equalizing through Malik Tillman’s deflected free-kick, Belgium dominated the match for most of the match. A costly error from goalkeeper Mats Freeze gave Belgium the opportunity to extend their lead, before Lukaku sealed the victory in the end. The defeat ended the United States’ campaign and became the third co-host nation to be eliminated from the tournament, after Canada and Mexico. Belgium will next face Spain, who defeated Portugal in the round of 16, in the quarter-finals on 10 July. (ANI)
