Who was Madhura?
Madhura was a nymph in heaven, which was famous for its unique beauty. His presence was so seductive that the gods and asuras were all crazy about his form. In mythology, she is considered the wife of Ravana. It is said that Madhura’s heart was pure, but his attraction towards Lord Shiva put her in difficulties. Madhura was actually the last birth of Mandodari, in her new birth, Mandodari was the daughter of Asura Mayanav and Hema.
Story of being fascinated by Lord Shiva
A nymph named Madhura, once she wandered to Mount Kailash. He saw Lord Shiva absorbed in penance there. Seeing Lord Shiva, she tried to dissolve her penance several times but she failed in her work. Actually Madhura was fascinated by seeing Lord Shiva. That is why she wanted to awaken her with penance and talk to them. So, Mata reaches Parvati there and seeing her husband’s penance dissolved, she becomes angry at Madhura.
Curse result
Mother Parvati cursed Madhura that she would become a frog and stay in a well. Seeing the wrath of Mother Parvati, Madhura starts apologizing to her. She sadly pleads with Mata Parvati, then Mother Parvati tells her that you can come back in their form by meditating. Madhura meditated and cursed was free. She then gives voice to get out of the well. At the same place, Mayasur and Hema, who are meditating to get children, take out Madhura and adopt it. He named Madhura Mandodari and later is married to Ravana.
