Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh launched the Delhi Model for Healthy Liver at the 16th Foundation Day function of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS). It is in the capital liver disease This is an important step towards public health regarding the increasing burden of diabetes. The Foundation Day program was organized at the ILBS campus in the presence of senior government officials, researchers, doctors, students and staff of the institute.
Launch of Delhi Model: Addressing the gathering at the Foundation Day function, Pankaj Kumar Singh appreciated the continuous contribution of ILBS in healthcare in Delhi and beyond. He said that ILBS has continuously set new standards in research and public interest. He assured and publicly confirmed the full and unwavering support of the Delhi Government to the institute.
An ideal institute for the entire country
Health Minister said – ILBS has become an ideal institute not only for Delhi but for the entire country. The dedication of its doctors, nurses, scientists and staff is exemplary. Delhi Government is proud of ILBS and will stand firm on every step taken to strengthen its mission.
ILBS Director-cum-Vice Chancellor Dr. S.K. Sarin presented the annual report of the institute for the year 2025. He detailed the institute’s achievements, academic progress and growing contribution to the public health sector. He expressed pride and satisfaction that last year the institute visited more than 1,60,000 patients, managed more than 11,000 emergency cases and performed 162 liver transplants.
Dr. Sarin said- ILBS is at where it is today, it is because of its employees. I thank each member of the ILBS family for their continued hard work, commitment and inspiration. Their dedication to patients, science and service has been the real driving force of our progress.
Know the Delhi Model for Healthy Liver
The Delhi Model for Healthy Liver, launched by the Health Minister, is a comprehensive and integrated public health platform to tackle the epidemic of fatty liver disease and other serious diseases. This model has been developed in the interest of people affected by approximately one-third of adult fatty liver.
The Delhi Model aims to accelerate treatment, focus on prevention and continuous lifestyle improvements, while ensuring advanced care when needed. This includes community awareness, participation in primary health care, referral protocols and expert leadership management, underpinned by the academic expertise of ILBS.
Major components of Delhi Model
• Awareness campaign on obesity, alcohol consumption and viral hepatitis.
• Screening for fatty liver at primary and secondary health centers
• Referral from mohalla clinics and district hospitals to higher medical centres.
• Algorithms for risk, monitoring and action
• Integration with lifestyle modification programs including nutrition counseling, physical activity promotion, and behavioral interventions.
• Data-based monitoring and evaluation to enable policy improvement, impact assessment and future expansion.
Liver Gyan initiative for awareness
On the foundation day, ILBS launched a public assistance initiative called Liver Gyan. Its objective is to bring awareness and improvement among the public regarding liver health. The aim is to provide accurate, evidence-based information, dispel misconceptions, and guide people to timely treatment.
