New Delhi [भारत]July 5 (ANI): Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya led the 80th edition of the nationwide ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. According to a release, the event was organized in collaboration with Satya Sai Seva organisations.
On the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of spiritual guru Sathya Sai, over 9000 enthusiastic people took part in community runs and rides as well as Zumba and yoga sessions in the national capital. The program started by Mandaviya in December 2024 has now turned into a mass movement, motivating citizens of all age groups for a ‘fitness dose, half an hour daily’. So far, more than 30 lakh people have participated in the program at thousands of locations across the country.
resolution to end obesity
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, the Union Sports Minister said that ‘Sunday on Cycle’ aims to eliminate the menace of obesity: “1 in every 4 people in India is overweight. Fitness is essential for all citizens. Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has aimed for a developed India in 2047. For any country to be counted as a developed nation, the health of its citizens is essential, and to stay healthy, citizens need to stay fit. I urge all Indians. I would urge them to take out at least an hour from their mobile screens and dedicate that time to their personal health by indulging in sports activities. ‘Sunday on Cycle’ is a part of the Prime Minister’s Fit India Movement and all citizens should run or cycle to keep their heart and body healthy.”
The community fitness ride began with Vedic chanting and lighting of the lamp by Mandaviya along with Nimish Gulabrai Pandya, All India President of Satya Sai Seva Sangathan, Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and other dignitaries. After this, before the start of the community fitness ride, a public pledge of ‘Drug Free India’ was taken.
best combination of institutions
Talking about the event, Nimish Pandya said: “The motto of Fit India is to make every Indian citizen fit and healthy, while the motto of Satya Sai Seva Sangathan is ‘Love to all, Service to all’. Hence, both the organizations coming together for this 80th edition of ‘Sunday on Cycle’ is an excellent confluence. One saw how people of all age groups were participating in the community run or cycling with high energy and enthusiasm to the youth. Good habits should be adopted, as we say that only a good body can be the home of a good mind and soul. Youth should not abuse their body but take good care of it also. This is the cornerstone of our Indian culture.”
Noted actor Naseer Abdullah graced the event and described it as an “amazing experience”. The 70-year-old actor later said: “The Sports Minister was here and he gave a very inspiring speech before cycling with the public. It was an amazing feeling to see thousands of people gathering at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. I am not used to getting up so early, but seeing the enthusiasm and energy of the crowd today I felt it was worthwhile.”
