Dr. Sharma said that if hemoglobin is low then both mother and child are at risk. Therefore, testing is necessary. If the level is low, it can be corrected by iron supplements and changes in diet. Similarly, blood sugar tests are also important. Because if sugar is high or diabetes occurs then it affects the development of the child in the womb. Similarly, proper functioning of thyroid increases the impact on the physical and mental development of the child. Thyroid can be easily controlled with medicines.
Prevention from Thalassemia is very important
Thalassemia major is a fatal disease. It requires blood transfusion every month. If both the parents are thalassemia minor, then there is a risk of thalassemia major in the child. Therefore, thalassemia test should be done before marriage. Even if this is not the case, it should be checked before pregnancy.
Rubella and chickenpox testing necessary
Rubella and chickenpox antibody test shows that the mother has been properly vaccinated. If the level of antibodies is very low, it is also advisable to get vaccinated before pregnancy.
