Jagan attacks Naidu, says police is being used for political repression. Jagan Attacks Naidu Govt Says Police Used For Political Repression

YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has attacked the Chandrababu Naidu government, alleging that police are being misused to suppress political opposition, while crimes against women and children are being ignored.

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [भारत]July 5 (ANI): YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the N Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh government. He accused the government of misusing the police machinery to suppress political dissent, while allegedly failing to deal with rising crimes against weaker sections of the society.

“You (Chandrababu) are pushing the policing system on an extremely dangerous path to carry out political repression and silence those who question you. Through the wrong traditions that have emerged under your rule, you have sown poisonous seeds across the state, and they are slowly taking root and growing into a dangerous culture,” the YSRCP chief said.

Silence on crimes, strictness on social media?

He further said, “When children go missing, there is no promptness in investigation. When complaints related to crimes against women are not even filed, there is no response. Even when a tribal woman is stripped and assaulted, there is no arrest. But if someone questions the government on social media, he faces a case, arrest, custodial torture and non-bailable charges.”

The former chief minister posted on Twitter alleging that the state administration was giving priority to targeting social media activists instead of necessary law enforcement. He claimed that while individuals questioning the government are being booked under stringent legal provisions, serious criminal cases involving women and children are facing deliberate delays and inadequate investigation.

Cited several criminal cases

Highlighting specific incidents, Reddy pointed to the disappearance of a minor girl in Kakinada, alleged sexual assault of a mentally challenged girl in Peddapuram and assault on a tribal woman in SPSR Nellore. He cited the alleged custodial deaths, including those of Sai Krishna, Gangamma and Tirupatamma, as evidence of a “decline in policing and accountability”.

Condemnation of arrest of journalist

The YSRCP president particularly condemned the police action against YouTubers and activists, and described the treatment of Osmania University gold medal-winning journalist KVR as “highly condemnable”. Reddy said, “Bringing YouTube influencer and Osmania University gold medal winning journalist KVR from Hyderabad with a huge police force, without following due legal process, falsely accusing him in an FIR of acts he never committed, and sending him to jail is a highly condemnable act.”

‘Why different laws for you, different laws for others?’

Addressing the Chief Minister directly, Reddy questioned the double standards regarding freedom of speech: “Chandrababu, you, Pawan Kalyan, Lokesh and your party leaders have said a lot in the past and are saying the same now. Today, others are only repeating the same words and questioning you. If so, shouldn’t the same charges be leveled against you too? Portraying critics as criminals, attacking police stations with the intention of eliminating them. “Sending our people while the police remains a mute spectator is a dangerous sign for democracy. It is an attack on democratic values.”

He further said, “Chandrababu, Andhra Pradesh does not need an unbridled police raj. It does not need jungle raj. It needs a government that ensures the safety of its people. It needs a system that provides justice to victims. It needs the belief that all are equal before the law. It needs a policing system that works in accordance with the Constitution and not at the behest of political dictates.”

Reddy asserted that the current administration was undermining democratic institutions and urged a return to a governance system that prioritizes the rule of law rather than political vendetta. (ANI)
