Karnataka Minister for Home, e-Governance and Kalaburagi-Yadgiri district in-charge Priyank Kharge was given a grand welcome during his first visit to the city after assuming charge. Speaking at a felicitation function organized by the District Congress Committee, MLC Tippanna Kamkanur said that this huge welcome is proof that Minister Priyank Kharge is one of the most important and prominent ministers of the state government.

Kamkanur said, “Priyank Kharge is a popular home minister. He will win again in the 2028 elections, and while he is the home minister today, he will become the chief minister that year.”

Demand to include communities in ST category

He also said that if there is political will to include Koli, Kabbalinga and similar communities in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, “only Priyank Kharge has it.”

Kamkanur mentioned that work is underway to install the statue of Nijasharan Ambigar Chowdhary in Gulbarga, for which the minister has released a grant of Rs 17 lakh. He said, “We will gather one lakh people for the unveiling of the statue. We also urge the minister to install a statue of Ambigar Chowdhary in front of the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.”

‘Kharge has all the qualifications to become the Chief Minister’

MLAs M.Y. Patil and Allamaprabhu Patil said that Priyank Kharge has been assigned portfolios as per his capabilities. He said, “This is the first time that the e-governance portfolio has been given to a minister other than the Chief Minister. IT-BT industry leaders themselves had demanded that the IT-BT portfolio be given to Priyank Kharge, which shows his ability.”

He further said, “We had requested that he be made the Deputy Chief Minister. But he has all the qualifications to become the Chief Minister.”

The leaders also urged Kharge to seek drought relief from the Chief Minister, who is scheduled to visit the district on Tuesday. “There is a drought-like situation in the district and the demand for drinking water has increased. Kharge should ensure that relief is provided,” he said.

Earlier, thousands of party workers, supporters and leaders gave a grand welcome to Minister Kharge near Nageshwar School in Ganj area and took him to the District Congress office in a grand procession.
