Ukrainian President Zelensky has warned that Russia is preparing another major attack before the NATO summit. He has appealed to the allied countries including America to speed up the supply of air defense systems and Patriot missiles so that the lives of civilians can be saved.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Sunday (local time) that intelligence indicated Russia was preparing a new large-scale attack. He urged Ukraine’s international partners to accelerate the delivery of air defense systems and Patriot missiles to protect civilian lives.
In a post shared on Twitter, Zelensky said Russia is preparing another major attack ahead of the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara. Zelensky said, “Intelligence once again indicates that the Russians are preparing a new major attack. This is Putin’s way: right after America’s Independence Day and before the NATO summit in Ankara. Russia wants to bring more evil and kill people.”
He urged Ukrainians to remain vigilant and heed airstrike warnings. “Please stay safe and heed any airstrike alerts,” he said.
Calling on Kiev’s allies to increase military aid, Zelensky said delays in the supply of air defense missiles would cost lives. He added, “Separately, for partners: any delay in the delivery of missiles for our air defense – missiles for the Patriots – means loss of lives, and it encourages Russia to continue the war.”
Emphasizing that sufficient air defense resources already exist around the world, Zelensky appealed to the United States and other partner countries for quick decisions. He said, “The world has air defense in the required quantity and quality. Your decisions are needed to ensure the real safety of life in Ukraine. Above all, these are of course the decisions of the United States, the decisions of Europe and strong countries around the world.”
He added, “Please be proactive in your decisions and protect lives. Missiles for the Patriots are needed now, not in warehouses, but at Patriot units in Ukraine. I thank all those who are providing real help.”
Putin called the capture of Konstantinovka a big victory
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday described the capture of Konstantinovka in Ukraine’s Donetsk region as a strategically important victory. He called it “the first, but very important step” in eliminating Kiev’s remaining bases in the region. Speaking at a military command post after receiving a briefing from senior commanders, Putin said the capture of the city would pave the way for further advances into Donetsk. Russian officials claimed that their forces captured heavily fortified Ukrainian positions after weeks of fighting.
Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities, Zelensky condemned
At the same time, Zelensky condemned Russia’s recent attacks on Ukrainian cities, including the attack on Sumy, which killed four people, including a child. They also reported drone attacks in Zaporizhia, which killed two people and injured several others, while Kharkiv, Dnipro and Donetsk were also attacked. Zelensky urged the United States, Europe, the G7 and the G20 to step up pressure on Russia and strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. (ANI)
