X outage reportedly hits users across India, UK and Canada

New Delhi: X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk and earlier known as Twitter, faced a widespread outage on Tuesday evening, leaving thousands of users unable to access the service across several countries. According to outage tracking website Downdetector.com, users began reporting problems around 7:30 pm on January 13.  Complaints rose quickly and reached their highest point at around 8:15 pm.

Most of the complaints were linked to problems with accessing the X app and website. Downdetector data showed that about 59 per cent of affected users had trouble opening or using the mobile app. Around 25 per cent said they were unable to access the website properly, while nearly 16 per cent reported server connection errors.

Region reportedly affected by X outage

At the peak of the disruption, more than 28,000 users worldwide had reported issues with the platform. India was among the affected regions, with around 2,200 users reporting problems at the height of the outage. The issue was not limited to one country. In the United Kingdom, over 7,000 users were impacted, while more than 2,700 users in Canada also faced difficulties, Reuters reported.

We have also checked whether X is really down, and we found out that we were able to open X on both mobile devices and the website during this period. However, it seems that some video content did not load properly on the web version, indicating partial service issues rather than a complete shutdown.

How X responded to the situation

So far, X has not released any official statement explaining what caused the outage or when the issue was fully resolved. This disruption is the latest in a series of technical problems faced by the platform in recent months. Similar large-scale outages were reported in November. Earlier incidents in October were linked to issues with Cloudflare, while outages in July and August also stopped many users from accessing the service.
