Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming film O Romeo is facing trouble even before release, as the daughter of slain Mumbai gangster Hussain Shaikh, known as Hussain Ustara, has reportedly demanded ₹2 crore and a delay in release from the makers.
The demand letter is said to target producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Vishal Bhardwaj. It seeks both financial compensation and a halt to O Romeo’s release until specific conditions are fulfilled. The filmmakers have not yet issued any public response regarding these claims.
O Romeo Controversy & Hussain Ustara Link
The letter has been sent by Sanober Shaikh, daughter of Mumbai gangster Hussain Shaikh aka Ustara. Bollywood Hungama quoted a source close to the development as saying, “The letter has been addressed to producer Sajid Nadiadwala of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and director Vishal Bhardwaj last week. It claims that O’Romeo probably shows Hussain Ustara in a bad light, thereby impacting the family’s reputation. Hence, she has asked for ₹2 crores for the same. Along with the monetary demand, Sanober has also reportedly requested the makers to halt or cancel the film’s release until her concerns are addressed to her satisfaction.”
According to the source cited, Sanober’s objection centres on how Hussain Ustara may be portrayed in O Romeo. The concern, as reported, is about possible damage to the family’s image. The letter therefore links the requested payment and release postponement directly to addressing these alleged reputational issues.
O Romeo Storyline
The teaser of O Romeo, released recently, suggests a gritty action drama filled with violence and romance. Shahid Kapoor appears as a gunman in the promo. However, the storyline has not been fully disclosed, and there is no official plot summary yet.
The team behind O Romeo, including the cast, has not confirmed whether the film draws from the life or killing of Hussain Ustara. Hussain was a Mumbai-based gangster known for a feud with underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim, which has long attracted public and media curiosity.
