GATE 2026 registrations begins today; check application fee, eligibility criteria

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati will commence the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 registration from today, August 28. The last date for GATE registration 2026 without a late fee is September 28. Candidates can apply for GATE 2026 exam through the official website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in. IIT Guwahati has scheduled to conduct the GATE exam on February 7, 8, 14, and 15.

For admission to postgraduate programmes, the GATE 2026 exam will be conducted for a total of 30 test papers. The entrance exam will be held in two shifts. Shift 1 will be from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and shift 2 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
This year, the exam conducting authority has introduced a new energy science sectional paper under the engineering science subject.

GATE 2026 application fee

The GATE 2026 application fee is Rs 2,000 for each paper. For female, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category candidates, the application fee is Rs 1,000. Those who fail to apply for the GATE 2026 exam need to pay an additional fee of Rs 500 to submit the form.

BSc (Research), BS Bachelor’s degree in science (post-diploma or four years after Class 12)

Pharm D (after Class 12) A professional pharmacy doctoral programme of 6 years duration after Class 12 which includes one year of internship or residency

Currently in the 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th year or already completed

MBBS, BDS, BVSc Professional medical degree programs – MBBS, BDS or BVSc

5th, 6th or 7th or higher semester or already completed

MSc, MA, MCA or equivalent Master’s degree in any branch of Arts, Science,  Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Applications or equivalent

Currently in the 1st year or higher or already completed

Integrated ME or MTech (Post-BSc) Post BSc Integrated Master’s degree programmes in engineering or technology (four-year programme)

Currently in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year or already completed

The GATE exam is conducted for admission to Master of Engineering (ME) and Master of Technology (MTech) programmes at IITs, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and other institutions. Those who qualify the entrance exam are also eligible to apply for Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) recruitment.
