Ever since President Donald Trump came to power in the US. He has taken many decisions one after the other that shocked the world. One of them is the decision on tariff. With the aim of making America great again, he imposed arbitrary tariff rates on almost all the trade partner countries, which also affected America. In the same sequence, he also imposed increasing tariff of 50 percent on India. Trade is being affected by this tariff. But now there is hope that talks can be made between the two countries.
Import-export of America and India
Trade relations between India and America are continuously strengthening. America remained India’s largest export country in the financial year 2024-25 (FY25). According to official data from the Ministry of Commerce of India (DGCI&S), India’s exports to the US stood at around $86.5 billion in FY25, while India’s imports from the US stood at around $45.3 billion. In this way India got a trade surplus of more than 41 billion dollars with America.
These goods are traded
Major products sent from India to America include electrical and electronics goods, pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, precious stones and jewelery and petroleum products. At the same time, India mainly imports crude oil and LNG, aircraft and machinery, electronic equipment and capital goods from America.
Talking about the financial year 2025-26, India’s exports to America during April-July 2025 were more than $33.5 billion, while imports were around $17.4 billion. Overall, if talks on trade are not resolved soon, both countries will have to suffer losses. If India suffers losses as an exporter, American consumers will have to pay for it.
