Due to this incident, traffic came to a halt in the area and panic spread among the people. According to preliminary information, this accident occurred during testing of a recently laid underground water pipeline. This unexpected incident has raised questions on the quality of the pipeline project and the work of the contractor.
This water supply scheme was scheduled to start next week, but even before it was commissioned, a defect was found during testing. It is expected that officials will investigate the cause of the pipeline burst.
Amid the continuous monsoon rains in Maharashtra, several deadly incidents in Mumbai, Pune and other areas have once again raised concerns about people’s safety and civic amenities. One such tragic incident took place in Mumbai on Friday, July 3, when 55-year-old Aslam Isak Shaikh fell into an open manhole following heavy rains in Sakinaka area, losing his life. According to reports, the manhole was left open due to drainage work. Following strong criticism of the incident, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has dismissed four officials and initiated a departmental inquiry.
