Pune Mumbai Expressway Landslide: Rain has wreaked havoc in Mayanagari Mumbai. The entire metropolis has turned into water. Due to torrential rains, trees are falling at some places and roads are sinking into the ground at some places. Many people have also died in this deadly rain. On Monday, 6 people lost their lives when a house collapsed in Mankhurd area. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed deep grief over this tragic accident. He has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the family of each deceased.
Mumbai Mayor said – this accident was terrible
On this accident, Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde said that this construction was illegal and such illegal buildings are a big problem in the area. He said, “It was a three-storey building and completely illegal. It also had a warehouse… The upper floors fell directly on the adjacent house, where a family was living… It was a very horrifying incident that happened around 8:30 in the morning… We tried to save them, but unfortunately no one survived.”
Landslide was terrible in Mumbai-Pune
- This accident has happened at a time when the country’s financial capital is experiencing heavy monsoon rains. Because of this, many rain-related accidents have occurred in the city and its suburbs.
- Earlier on Monday, incessant rains led to a landslide in the Mumbai-Pune Ghat section, severely affecting both rail and road connectivity between the two cities.
- Several train services were canceled or diverted after rocks fell on the railway tracks. At the same time, after a major landslide, traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune Highway was stopped till further notice.
Rocks falling on railway track
- Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav took stock of the situation and said that despite continuous heavy rains, repair work is going on.
- The minister said, “Reviewed the situation arising out of massive landslide in the Mumbai-Pune Ghat section and falling of rocks on the railway track. The team is fully prepared for restoration. Heavy rains are expected today also. I have asked officials of both Western and Central Railways to work as a team so that all train services are restored as soon as possible.”
