Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta over the murder of an AAP woman worker, alleging a ‘complete breakdown of law and order’ in the national capital under the BJP rule.
“The situation in Delhi has deteriorated to such an extent that no one is safe. This incident, which occurred in the Chief Minister’s own constituency, is a testament to the BJP government’s failure and the complete breakdown of law and order,” Kejriwal said on X.
Kejriwal said that the murder of AAP worker Rachna Yadav outside her residence is highly “condemnable” and “unacceptable”.
“My deepest condolences to the family of Rachna Yadav, a stalwart Aam Aadmi Party worker. May her soul rest in peace,” he said.
Yadav, an Aam Aadmi Party worker, was brutally shot dead in broad daylight outside her home in Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh on Saturday.
Reacting to the incident, the AAP said that the murder not only exposed the “complete failure of law and order”, but also raised serious questions about the safety of women.
“It is completely unacceptable that such a heinous crime occurred in the Chief Minister’s own constituency. The perpetrators must receive the harshest possible punishment,” the party said.
According to Delhi Police, the incident appeared to be linked to the murder of Rachna’s husband, Vijender Yadav, in 2023. She was reportedly a key witness in her husband’s murder.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhisham Singh said, “The background of this case concerns the village of Balsua. She is from there, and her husband, whose name is Vijender Yadav, was murdered there, perhaps in 2023 or 2022.”
The police said that “all possible angles are being investigated in the case.”
