If you are a member of the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), sometimes you may need to make some changes in your EPF account. These changes may be related to your name, date of birth (DOB), marital status or your citizenship.

Here the entire process in different situations is explained in an easy manner. By following this guide you can make changes in your EPFO profile.

1. What changes can be made without uploading documents?

This facility is available only if your UAN (Universal Account Number) was activated before October 1, 2017 and is verified with Aadhaar. If these conditions are met, you can make changes in your name, citizenship, parents’ names, marital status, date of joining and date of leaving the job without uploading any documents. If the UAN was activated before October 1, 2017, changes can be made only after the joint declaration is approved by the employer.

2. Can citizenship be changed?

According to the new rules of EPFO, change in citizenship can be done only in two cases. First, when the citizenship column is empty and you want to make it Indian. Second, when you want to change from Indian to international citizenship.

3. If UAN is not linked to Aadhaar or there is no UAN?

In such a situation, the physical form of joint declaration will have to be filled and given to the employer. The employer will upload it from his EPFO account and send it to EPFO. After this the documents will reach the EPFO office.

4. What to do if the company is permanently closed?

In such a case, the joint declaration will need to be signed by an authorized person, such as a Gazetted Officer, Notary Public, Member of Parliament (MP), Post Master or Gram Panchayat Chief. Along with this, necessary documents will have to be submitted to the EPFO office.
