He also won on Samata Party ticket in 2000. The party later merged with JDU. Since then, he has been continuously winning elections from Nalanda as a JDU candidate. His political life is more than three decades long. Shravan Kumar has also been the Chief Whip of JDU in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He has been a minister in the cabinet of Nitish Kumar and Jitan Ram Manjhi. He is currently handling the responsibility of the Minister of Rural Development.
