Westside preparing to go global! Noel Tata’s daughter Maya Tata will take command, business will get a new digital boost

Noel Tata’s daughter Maya has been given important responsibility for Westside.

Noel Tata’s daughter Maya Tata is preparing to take over the e-commerce marketing job of Trent’s main fashion retail chain ‘Westside’. Along with its global expansion plans, the company is also rapidly advancing its digital targets. 37 year old Maya has recently resigned from Tata Digital. She is expected to leverage her experience in digital commerce, customer acquisition and online retail to drive the next phase of Westside’s online growth. Before joining Tata Digital, he also worked at Tata Capital. It is believed that this step has been taken on the advice of his father Noel Tata, who is currently the chairman of Trent and is going to retire from this post in November this year. Trent did not comment on this.

How many stores does Westside have?

His brother, Neville Tata, manages Trent’s hypermarket business ‘Star Bazaar’. Westside, which contributes about 40 percent of Trent’s revenue, is rapidly pursuing its omnichannel strategy and also expanding internationally. Recently it has opened its first stores in UAE. Overseas expansion is expected to be helped by a strong digital marketing and customer engagement strategy.

In fact, the retailer wants to create a global identity for its domestic fashion brand. At its recent annual general meeting, Trent announced an aggressive strategy to open approximately 50 new Westside stores every year – a huge increase for a chain that had opened only 48 stores in total in the last three years. In fact, Westside added 52 stores in FY26 alone.

Officials associated with the matter said that Maya Tata can also lead Trent’s larger goal of creating an internationally loved retail brand. The retailer, which runs Westside, Zoodio and Star Bazaar, ended FY26 with revenue of about Rs 19,700 crore and expanded to 1,286 stores spread over 17.7 million square feet in 321 cities.

What is the plan?

Chairman Noel N Tata said Trent’s long-term strategy is to build Indian brands that can succeed in global markets and also to build a meaningful overseas business that can support India’s growing export goals. He said that since outlining the company’s ’10X vision’ at the 2023 annual shareholders meeting, Trent has more than doubled its revenue and increased profits by more than 2.5 times. Westside’s recent entry into the UAE marks the beginning of its international expansion, and digital commerce is expected to play a key role in supporting the brand’s overseas growth strategy.
