Recently, while talking to ‘Humans of Bombay’, Neena Gupta shared an unheard story of her life, which troubles her even today. After the engagement, Neena Gupta was very excited about her marriage. She was ready to start her family. She also went to Delhi to buy clothes and jewellery. But suddenly, a phone call just before the wedding ruins everything. That person suddenly broke the relationship without giving any clear reason. Neena gets a call that “the marriage is not happening now”. When they asked what happened, she said she had to undergo sinus surgery.

Neena Gupta told that till date she does not know the real reason for the breakdown of the marriage. She kept asking her parents what happened, but they never told her until today. She was very sad at that time. But the story did not end here. About six months later, the same person contacted her again and proposed marriage. But by then Neena had changed her mind. Keeping his self-respect in mind, he rejected that offer.

Does society not accept self-reliant women?

During the interview, Neena also talked about the social mentality where even today people become uncomfortable seeing women living their lives in their own way. He said, “95% of men want women who will obey them in every way. Who have no opinions of their own and who are not completely dedicated to their career.” Neena believes that in a patriarchal society, an independent woman is often not considered “suitable” for marriage. She also clarified that she is not saying this about every man, but based on her long experience she said that the society is still not ready to completely accept strong women.
