Budget will be presented for the first time on Sunday, President approved, know the complete timeline

This time the country’s Budget-2026 will be presented on February 1 i.e. Sunday. The budget session of Parliament will start from January 28 and will continue till April 2. The President has approved it. The President’s address will be held on January 28. The economic survey will be presented on January 29. Despite it being Sunday, the budget will be presented on February 1. The first phase of the budget session will end on February 13. The second phase will start on March 9 and will continue till April 2.

Citing the probable schedule decided by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, officials said on Friday that President Draupadi Murmu will address the joint meeting of both the Houses on January 28. The traditional address of the President takes place on the first day of the first session of the year. Due to the Beating Retreat ceremony, there will be no meeting of both the Houses on January 29.

Lok Sabha-Rajya Sabha meeting will not be held on January 31

Parliament will meet on January 30, the day the Economic Survey is likely to be presented. After this, there will be no meeting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on 31 January. The Union Budget will be presented on February 1. After discussing the motion of thanks on the President’s address and the Union Budget, the Parliament meeting will be adjourned on February 13 for a recess of about a month.

Parliament meeting will resume on March 9

Parliament will meet again on March 9 and the session will end on Thursday, April 2. Officials said that usually the Parliament session is adjourned on Friday. But, keeping in mind Good Friday on April 3 and the weekend thereafter, the session may end on April 2.

How special will the budget be this time?

This time the budget is going to be different in many ways. First of all, in a departure from tradition, the budget will be presented on Sunday, February 1. What is even more talked about is that for the first time there is no Finance Secretary present in the Finance Ministry, yet budget preparations are in full swing.

Generally the Finance Secretary is the most senior officer of the Finance Ministry. It is his big responsibility to create coordination between different departments of the ministry, monitor major decisions related to the budget and give direction to the entire process. In simple words, the Finance Secretary is considered the operator of the budget machinery.
