Uttarakhand CM Dhami orders CBI probe in Ankita Bhandari case, assures justice with transparency

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved the recommendation for a CBI investigation into the tragic Ankita Bhandari case. The decision was taken after meeting Ankita’s parents, who requested a central probe to ensure complete justice.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the government’s objective has always been to deliver justice in a fair, transparent, and sensitive manner. He said that from the very beginning, the state acted promptly and impartially after the heartbreaking incident came to light. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was immediately formed under the leadership of a woman IPS officer to handle the case. All accused were swiftly arrested, and the government ensured strong legal representation so that none of them could secure bail during the investigation and trial.

SIT Action and Court Verdict

After a thorough investigation, the SIT filed a chargesheet against the accused. Following the trial, the lower court awarded life imprisonment to the convicts. Dhami stated that this entire process demonstrates the government’s commitment to fairness and firmness in securing justice for Ankita.

Recent Developments

The Chief Minister also mentioned that separate FIRs have been registered regarding certain audio clips circulating on social media, and investigations into those matters are ongoing. He assured that no fact or evidence will be overlooked.

Speaking emotionally, Dhami said, “Ankita was not just a victim, she was our sister and daughter. The government will continue to work with sensitivity and determination to ensure justice for her.”

Parents’ Request for CBI Probe

Dhami informed that he recently met Ankita’s parents, who expressed their desire for a CBI investigation. Respecting their sentiments, the state government has decided to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

He reiterated that the government’s intent is absolutely clear: justice must be delivered without compromise. The move to involve the CBI is seen as a step to strengthen public trust and ensure that every aspect of the case is examined thoroughly.
